How to Talk to Yourself
My mother came into town this past week and we caught up in talking about the direction our lives have taken, plans for the future and most importantly what holds people back from succeeding. We boiled it down to a lot must have to do with autopilot, many people don't take the time to check in on themselves and make sure they're doing what they want to do. I know I was guilty of that a lot in 2016. We especially loved this quote by Sophia Loren and even though she was using it terms of her birthdays, it really holds true for the new year.
“It is a good reason to talk to yourself, to ask yourself what you have been doing, what you are doing and what you will do. Girls who can’t go off and talk to themselves stay girls and never become women. Women who can’t take stock turn to drink, take pills or worse, but I can take stock. I can send for the bill of life and add it up too. If I ever feel depressed I consider what I have done and what I have accomplished — starting from nothing and arriving now with so much happiness.” – Sophia Loren
Don't be afraid to do a little talking to yourself, journal, clear your mind and plan for what you want. To quote some teacher in high school, without a plan then you're already planning to fail and you might wake up a year from now in quite the same place.
Go get out your plans from last year, your goals, your resolutions and give them a once over, what were they?
Did you meet your goals? What did you do in 2016?
Theres probably a bunch that got dropped, I know I didn't spend as much time as I wanted to in front of a sewing machine being creative.
List off your excuses why they didn't get done.
Be honest, lay them all out, this is the only way you'll see what is holding you back.
What did you accomplish? How did it make you feel?
Celebrate this! Brag! You did it! Own it!
How are you different today than one whole year ago?
Change is good, take stock in it.
What do you want to accomplish in 2017?
How do you want to feel in 2017?
Calm, creative and fulfilled for me.
How are you going to accomplish it?
Everyone needs a little help, do you need a personal assistant? A maid? A new planner?
Use these questions to prompt yourself, really break down this past year and take stock in your journey. Create a new plan, a mantra, a vision board, whatever helps your get up in the morning and kill it!
Bring on the new year!
